Oui, c’est une histoire vraie basée sur le système de Law (1716-1720) : après la mort de Louis XIV, la France était endettée par les guerres et John Law, banquier écossais, a mis en place la Banque Générale et la Compagnie des Indes pour émettre du papier-monnaie et des actions.
Les faits principaux sont vérifiés historiquement : bulle spéculative à Paris, inflation massive, krach en 1720 avec ruine de nombreux investisseurs qui avaient converti leur or en billets, et fuite de Law.
